1. Era: 1884-1887
2. Measurements: 32" bust, 22" waist, 10 1/4" shoulder width, 21" from neck to the (pointed) peaked hem, 10 7/8" long from underarm to hem, 17" long from center front of the neck to the hem, 21 1/2" sleeve length
3. Label: None
4. Materials / 5. Condition / 6. Notable details: (see below)
This lovely faille and velvet Victorian bodice is from a rather limited time frame, that of 1884-1887 with it's high neckline, long slender sleeves, and relatively shorter length peplum cut.
The colorway of rich copper toned faille combined with dark espresso brown and cream velvet along with chestnut toned faille striping indicates this as an autumn and winter garment.
It is incredibly tailored, with curved princess seaming, and boning to add structure. All seams are clipped, and hand stitch finished.
The bracelet length sleeves are slender cut with turned cuffs of the contrast striped velvet: the stripes are miter matched at the seam.
This also features crochet covered buttons and hand-worked buttonholes.
This has a wide under band that fastens with hooks and eyes at the waist area underneath the bodice; it is 3.25" wide and made of a smooth striped shirting cotton; that same soft fabric is used as the underlining for the entire bodice.
Estate fresh, this has not been cleaned (we're in a small town and do not have a qualified vintage clothing cleaning specialist); at the front neckline there are small dark spots, a little slit in the fabric of the stand up collar, and the top button is missing. There is a pin size snag and 1/4" tear near the back left shoulder (see flaws in images attached).
Starting bid $35 USD
Item location country: USA
