Aura for Betmar Hat Help?

One more thing... I also got this hat, and I can't find anything on this brand. The style says 20s, but the only other hat even remotely like this that I found in a search was 60s.

Also, I'm intrigued by the "made in Northern Ireland" part. Does anyone know anything about Aura? I'd love to know more (I do academic work on Northern Ireland...).

I admit I know next to nothing about hats, and want to know more. I tend to just stay away from them because of my ignorance...but I love this hat. And, of course, I have an academic interest in it, too!

As you can see, the hat still has it's label, which is sewn into the band. I'm not quite sure if the 1695 is the original price or not.

I don't know anything about the brand, but I would agree with 60s based on a few things: style, the grosgrain ribbon surround (not found in 20s hats), the modern label as well as the store tag ;) Looks like a fur felt on my screen and it's lovely!

Yup 1960s - a sort of flapper revival cloche. I used several inflation calculators and they are all arriving at $16.45 working out to about $100 bucks today. To me, that seems high, but I can see a well made hat today going for closer to that than $16.00

How interesting on the (possible) price! So this would have been a real buy... If the former owner was anything like my mother, I get why the tag is still on. She would buy a few really nice things, and then "put them up." Drove me crazy! I'm all about wearing it now!

Yes, it is fur felt with a velvety decorative band and bow. Still wondering about that company. Northern Ireland wasn't the most stable place to have a business in the 1960s. The name, Fisher, is interesting, too. I'm just so intrigued...

What an adorable hat! And I agree with 60s. I'm guessing that "Aura" refers to what the maker (who would be the I.J. Fisher & Co.) of the wool or felt called this particular type, which, based on the wording, may have been propietary for Betmar. You see names like Duchess, Empress, Princess, etc. in the stamps on the crowns of hats, but not always the "for so-and-so" designation. The material would have been imported and the hat manufactured by Betmar.
