Authentic outfit help

Hi everyone!

I am attending a Dirty Dancing event in London and it is required that everyone attending make a special effort with their outfits. I really want to look the part without looking tacky or cheesy but have no idea what to wear! Can you help with some suggestions? Anything would be appreciated!

I would be on the lookout for a pretty full-skirted sleeveless solid color dress.
It could be 60s or earlier, perhaps even more contemporary, as long as it had the somewhat demure, and special occasion look.

The other way to go would be the more casual tied-front cropped shirt and shorts, but I'd go with the dress.

I have straw picnic basket shaped just like a watermelon, in watermelon colors too. Even has seeds! Double handles on top and would make a cool purse or tote.

Oh wait.....you are in the UK. Well, have a great time, what fun!

I have a very similar dress to this one, it's late 1950's, early 60's Dorothy Perkins in horizontally striped turquoise blue cotton and a UK 8-10. Let me know if you're interested and I will get photos and measurements taken for you.
