Baby dolls? bloomers? Vanity Fair...not sure how old this set is. I'm not sure what title to use either. If anyone has any ideas or help for me it'd be much appreciated. (I've never sold vintage lingerie)

Do I keep the set together or just sell the bottoms?

The fabric reminds me of the folded paper fans we used to make. It there a name for it?

hhmmm..

The last picture...I have more of the hems...which look like a miniture blanket stitch along the edges...is there a name for raw edges with a blanket stitch type of look?

I would check the lingerie resource to ballpark date of these. (i am waiting for the pics to load..second pic doesn't appear to be there...don't know if its a pic of the label)

I would never split up a set of anything, though if they were a match in most cases. In the case that one piece in the set is less desirable/harder to descrived or damaged, I would market it as the more marketable piece and then throw the second in as a bonus for the sake of keeping things togther. A lot of collectors/wearers would be very appreciative of that.

I would also wait for the lingerie experts to show up because I am not one of them :)

Now the second picture is coming up for me...

I usually picture babydoll sets as having an empire waists..

Its really hard to tell not seeing this on a dress form/mannequin whether this is a top and bottoms, a shortie nightgown with panties or a babydoll with panties at least to me.

i'd wait for the experts

Thanks for the tip about keeping them together. The tags on the top & borttoms are identical.

...I actually have a 50yr old dress form but she doesn't have legs, just a pole...*smile* I could put the top on it but not the bottoms.

The tags on the top & borttoms are identical.

what do they look like....if you have a snap of it you might be able to narrow down the date.

:)

I attached a pic of the tag...not sure why it's not showing up yet? It's fabric with silkscreened or ink words saying Vanity Fair Quality Lingerie

I think that blue tag is 50s. Will have to go look. That is a baby doll pajama set. Don't break them up! Normally it is hard to find the bottoms.

Ohhhhhhhh is that GORGEOUS! please, please do not split up the set. Babydoll is anything shorter than thigh high. so it's a babydoll with matching bloomer panties. the pleats can be called accordian / or pin, maybe someone else can help us with that part. i usually call them accordian when they open so easily like that. (some are stitched to hold the pleats in place.) when you list, make sure you state "SHEER vintage Vantity fair Babydoll w/ Bloomer panties. the sheer will draw them in, as will bloomer & panties, great keywords. Label looks very early 50s. again, maybe an expert will come along, or check the label resource. You will get bidders that want just the panties, those are a hot vintage style, but dont break the set, its too hard to come by complete sets like that. Good luck.. its going to do really well for you! :) yvonne

Those should do very well, the sets are difficult to find. You could say fortuny style pleating you might market them as Vargas pin up style. I would say 50's or early 60s but in the UK we got babydoll nightwear later then in the USA. You must use bloomers they are very collectible at present.
Best of luck
Louise

you should put that tag on the label resource... I don't think we have it? I agree... those have to be late 50's, or early 60's. I would have expected the tag to be embroidered... huh.

DEFINATELY capitalize on the KWs mentioned by vintagepretties:
SHEER Vintage Vanity Fair Babydoll Nightie & Bloomer Panties

Don't think theres room for much else... but those are some of the biggies. Hope that all fits!

Thanks very much!!! I'll definately keep the set together. I also added a pic of the tag to the Label Image Thread. (Wasn't sure whether a pic of the set should be included)

I'm now starting to wonder if I should wait until I get a proper mannequin to model this...then sell it.

What's a fair price for a mannequin? (There's a guy in Toronto who is selling off some used department store mannequins...Old Navy...Club Monaco...Gap...etc)

I'll take a look through the VFG...I'm sure I saw a thread that talked about 'buying mannequins'.

Thanks again for all the input.

The label is in the lingerie resource rather than the regular label resource.

As far as mannequins, surf around the net to get a good idea about mannequin price ranges and different poses. you will get a good idea of what you like and don't like There is also a quick tips article about things to consider when purchasing a manni on our home page.

as far as price...surf around to get estimates. I see typically $90-249 but it can be higher or lower depending on if the manni requires some touch up, the owner is very motivated to sell and starts low, or the manni is extra special (particularly old and in excellent condition), or for example asian female mannis can go for big bucks $500+

Pair Black & Fleshtone half-girl mannis...

I got a set of these (one fleshtone, one black) over 3 years ago when I was still living in Hawaii and they have served me very well. To give you an idea of how sturdy these are, they come wrapped in pretty much nothing but thick paper. They survived the ship to Hawaii.. and as I was moving back to CA after all at that timel, I just forwarded them back to California in the same wrapping.
Not a dent. And still perfect.
Of course.. they're MUCh cheaper now. I think I paid $30 plus shipping for mine.
I also have a full size vintage mannequin, but sometimes I just prefer the ease & simplicity of my half-gals.
