The Poiret exhibit at the Met is fantastic! Anyone who has an interest in the era, French couture or just wants to see beautiful clothing should try to attend. There were examples from as early as Poiret's time with the house of Doucet, spanning his career and many talents including Rosine and Martine his perfume house and interior furnishings/design house.
There were two mesmerizing animations showing how a flowing wrap and evening gown were fashioned from a single length of fabric with minimal cutting and sewing. These were projected on a screen in front of the actual garments which were then lighted between loops of the animation. It really made you appreciate the design aspect and simplicity of these designs.
The entire exhibit is breathtaking and I'm so glad that I went to see it. I think I'll write about it on my blog in the next week or so, so stay tuned!
