Backdrop for pictures

Hello all;
I want to take better pictures for my website, can anybody tell me what type of backdrop I should use? I was just going to go out and buy a dark matte fabric and use that for the lighter couloured garments. Any suggestions?
Thanx

I have a paper roll backdrop, a 12' one, and spent something like $45 at the camera shop for it. It's neutral gray, with enough paper to keep me in backdrop for years.
I used wall mount ladder holders for it, instead of the expensive stands, and I cut off about 30" of the length for a tabletop version. They were out of short ones and I was gung ho.

I use a big peice of black material for light colored things and a big peice of white material (make sure it is as non see thru as you can get) for dark things. I pin the fabric onto the wall and then take it down when I'm done :)
If you have a plain background, it makes cropping out unwanted things easier as well as cloning the matching color into a background if something unwanted shows up in it.
