Dear ladies (and bag-gentlemen)

Have some question about this 4 bags/purses, your answers are much appreciated!

No 1:
Would you call this a wristbag/purse?
And do you know the label?(more pics of all 4 on this link:

No 2:
Date on this funny bag from skin/leather and a very special plastic clasp :-) I have no idea! And the leather/skin, what is it, do you think?

No 3:
Pierre Cardin
Late 70s /early 80s?
Genuine croc/alligator?
Is that golden crocodile stamped on the lining a certain(industry?) label for anything –
I think I have come across it before.

No 4:
Genuine croc/alligator, I'm sure of that. The poreholes are evident, and a funny detail: The sides of the bag are made from embossed leather, not exotic skin.

First question: can you help me dating it? My feeling is 50es or older, but just based on feeling– and perhaps the form of the clasp.

Question no 2: As you can see, the strap is missing. Such a shame, but nothing I can to about it. But when I list it, it would be nice if it was wearable/usable for the buyer, I think.
If I could add a strap that would fit it – of course clearly listing it as unoriginal. What would you do? And do you know anywhere (online) to find something like a strap for my bag, havn't been able to myself.

thanks so much –

I'm handbag impaired myself, but I'll take a stab at a few of your questions.

Bag #1, I think you call that shape an envelope bag, or more basically a clutch. The strap would make it a wristlet, I think. It looks like very nice leather - I can see the "L" but can't see the rest of the logo well enough to venture a guess.

#2, can't venture a guess on the leather type. The plastic frame and clasp looks like it might be celluloid, but don't quote me.

#3, it's so shiny and smooth, it's difficult to tell whether it's embossed leather or real. A closeup of the outer would be helpful. Look for a left to an edge of one of the tiles. It would make sense that that little lizardy logo would be a way of saying it was real. The lining looks like pigskin suede. Here's a good site I found on how to distinguish faux from real and gator vs croc vs caiman.

#4, it does look older to me, 50s/60s, but I don't have the expertise to be able to articulate why.

I'd say late 70s/early 80s on the first and third purses, 60s on the second one, and 50s on the fourth.

The first one I'd call a wristlet clutch. Any chance the critter in the logo is an armadillo? It's hard for me to see clearly...

The frame and chain handle on the second are probably just hard plastic--they show up on lots of 60s purses (including purse kits). I'm not sure what sort of leather it is. Is there a nything about it that makes you think it's not just ordinary cow leather?

The markings on the Cardin look so regular that I took them for embossing at first. But maybe Maggie's onto something with the use of that gator logo!

One possibility for a handle for the fourth purse is to try matching a length of chain to the metal color of the rings.

Carrie and Maggie, thank you both so much!:-)Big help already.
# 1 Wristlet clutch: Noted! Thanks! And Carrie, yes – It could very well be an armadillo – had to look "armadillo" up though, as I didn't know that that animal was called that in English,;-) but yes, I think it is an armadillo.
And yes, a very nice quality leather – can feel I'm growing a little attached to that one.
#2 Yes, I think it is thinner, more subtle, less stiff than "normal (cowhide) leather" - it is also sort of wrinkled and you see the "pores" quite clearly. I'm thinking now if it could be pigskin?
And 60s could be right, I think – as a sort og informal/fun accesory?
#3 Thanks for the link; Maggie, looked at it before, I think, and now again, but still finding it a bit diificult to distinguish. I'll try to make a close-up tomorrow in daylight. Yes, it's a strange thing to stamp a golden croc in a fake croc bag, isn't it – besides, of course if i actually means: "Fake croc" ;-)
#4 Oh, that's a good idea with a detachable metal chain. Should be able to find that around here.

Thanks so much!

Depending on the leather, Alligator, Lizard, Croc, etc...I've actually found belts that match and then my Shoe guy added them for me. An easy fix if you find a matching belt. Just a thought.

I'm just here taking notes on these lessons, but just have to say those are all gorgeous! I'm getting very into purses lately ... never cared much for them before.

All very nice bags! I agree with Carrie on all her dates. As to #3, my first thought, just looking at it, was that it is cabretta leather--which is very soft and supple. I think pigskin is thicker.

Could you possibly post a very close-up photo of that one?

Thanks again!
Inkedpalm: that's also a very good idea! Lots of nice belts in the thrift shops around here.
Wire9vintage: Thank you!
Anne: thanks for confirming the dates! They are noted.

I've uploadet some more close-ups of no 1.2 & 3 on this page:

(Same link as above)

Don't know cabretta leather, but this is thinner than normal leather, and though a bit stiff and yellowed now, I figure it would have been lighter in colour and very soft when it was new. Think it needs a little TLC.
Now that I took the close-ups of the pierre cardin, I noticed that there are like little bumps on he surface. Don't know it that is from the croc/croc embossing or from the patent-(ing), but they are about pinhole sized or a little bigger. You can actually see them, I think.
Can't seem to get a better shot of the dino/armadillo/porcupine/mystery beast :-) Bu if anyone has a clue, I'll be happy to hear!
