Hello everyone,
I recently bought a Balmain dress. It seems to be from the 80s. It has pierre balmain signature on the dress in a couple of places. However the care label is in japanese? Have you seen balmain with japanese care labels?

I also recently found a 60s geoffrey beene dress+ jacket. Along with the geoffrey beene label, it has a freidman sisters, Inc New york label as well. I am guessing that is probably the store or boutique where this dress was sold. Anyne know anything about them?

Thanks,
CV

Apologize for the amateurish pictures.. Actually I just started buying vintage clothing and I have found all of the stuff in estate sales and flea markets except for a suzy perette that I found in a vintage shop. I buy these to wear and I am always curious to know more about what I have found.. Thanks for you help..

I'm not sure if Balmain produced fabric as well as garments, but if he/they did, perhaps that's what you have - the label says "fabric for womenswear". Assuming it to be Balmain fabric, it could have been bought and made into a garment by another designer.

Thanks Nicole.I was thinking along the same lines. However I could not find any information online on whether Balmain did produce and sell fabrics..

Thanks vertugarde for the information. Do you know if there was a similar connection between Japan and Pierre Balmain?
Thanks.

And that doesn't help you at all! That'll teach me to think while fighting off a head cold. Anyway, I don't know if there was a similar connection with Japan and Balmain but the Paris couture 'market' has been traditionally quite strong with that country.
