Bard's was founded in Toronto by a couple from Syria/Lebanon, in 1938. They specialized in bathrobes and housecoats made from terrycloth and Viyella. Their daughter, Claire Haddad, became well known as Canada's premier lingerie designer. In 1967 she became the only Canadian to receive a COTY award. She took over her parents business (Bard's) when her father died in the early 1950s but operated under her own name for her lingerie designs. She closed her own business in 1985 when off-shore manufacturing, and the business of lingerie took a turn towards overly sexy styles with poorer quality construction. Presumably she closed Bard's around the same time, but I don't know for sure.
