Bathing/Swim costume ?'s

Bathing/Swim costume ?\'s

These I hope to get up by Sunday; so it's kinda a sneak preview too.

Confirmation on timelines, please!

1) Jean one-piece "Petti by Val Hughes Inc." - I'm thinking mid 60s
2) One piece mod "It's a Christina" - mod - mid to late 60s
3) Two tone mauve/lavender bikini - no name - just sythentik (with the k)
The plastic rectangles make me think mod, but the cut is very low; so are we
early 70s?
4) Bikini by Wonderbra with price tags on each piece $10.50 for the top and
$7.00 for the bottom (a bargain by today's prices!) - I'm thinking mid 70s.

Whaddayathink?

THANKS!

They are great!
(Pictures load right up for me, but I'm cable)

Swimsuits I don't know well at all as far as dates go.

I can help with titles, as I listed a few suits earlier in the year.

They are highly keyword searched, and you almost need to have Swimsuit "and" Bathing Suit in the title (I know... a lot of letters... but well used I think).

It's about a 50/50 split on the search, so if one is missing, about 50% of the potential buyers won't see it.

I usually associate the plastic fixings with 60s too. That first one is fantastic - I love the print on the reverse! I haven't seen a denim one piece like that before.. cool! :)

Thanks, ladies! When I got the mauve (years back!), I too thought 60s. But when I put it on the manny, I realized how low the bottom was cut and I just don't remember bikinis being that low. Certainly the plastic shows its age - it has yellowed considerably.

I like the jean one, too, Harriet. It's the only one that's not NOS and there is an issue with the crotch area - fading on the outside, mild stain (and I tried to remove on three separate occasions), and little pinholes. The middle brass decorative is missing a pin (like you find on a watch) and I haven't been lucky in trying to find a replacement.

You've been busy! Are you happy with the results?

No, I haven't listed, yet. And that's so sweet of you to ask! I keep getting pulled away. But I was able to find a bikini like the mod belted onepiece from a 1968 mag (I only own a handful of french mags from 66 to 69) that I will include with the sale. All the other bikinis I have found from that era are not as low cut; so if you have time and can take a look that would be awesome! Otherwise, no worries, I feel confident saying late 60s early 70s based on materials alone.

Can you just confirm mid 60s on the jean one piece, Linda? Or would it be mid to late?

THANKS SO MUCH!!!

I just love the top one! Super cute, mid 60s

The mauve bikini is later than 60s. It's much too tiny! I'd think mid 70s at the earliest.

Red white and blue is mid-late 60s

Flowered bikini is early to mid 70s.

One question on the Wonderbra--wasn't that a patent from the late 80's?

I don't recall that brand prior to the late '80's, it was such a big deal when those bras hit the scene.

--Jennifer O.

I remember Wonderbra from way back - certainly their advertising was ubiquitous - and according to one site Gossard launched its Wonderbra campaign in 1968 and sold out to another company in the 90s when it made a big comeback.

Hi Deborah,

I'm not that well versed with swimsuits, but agree with Lizzie that the
first is 60s and also the third one, although I feel it is later than the
first one.

The others, I'm not sure about and would be guessing.

Sue

Deborah, I agree with all of Lizzie's dates.

Here is a scan from Sears Spring 1972.

Found this about Wonderbra...

<b>The Wonderbra was created in 1964 by Louise Poirier for Canadelle, a Canadian lingerie company. Since its creation, the basic design and construction of the Wonderbra ? and its intended effect ? have remained the same. The Wonderbra has 54 design elements that succeed in lifting and supporting the bustline while creating a deep plunge and push-together effect. The unique bra helps even the slightest of figures take on a fuller form. The Wonderbra uses less padding than other bras, yet through precision engineering, it lifts and supports the bustline and gives a more natural projection while not compressing the breasts. Exhibit 3 describes the design elements of the Wonderbra.

Of course it made its big hit and comeback in 1994.

Here are some more pics from Sears Spring 1972.

THANK YOU LINDA!!!!! That is too cool! The last pic brings me back - way back - I wore a similar outfit like the one on the far right to Expo 67 here in Montreal.

And thank you for the Wonderbra info - there is so much information and disinformation, it's hard to know what's what.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I'm proud to say that *I* am now the owner of suit #1!!

I even wrote about it on my blog. Click on the travel journal link below to read about it.
