was wondering if anyone has clues on this belt. do you think it is from 1930's perhaps? there are some initials on the edge as in picture, either represents a name or association?
Its loom beadwork, which means its woven with threaded beads. It was a popular Plains Native American craft in the late 19th century, but I believe it was copied in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s.
I agree with 1920's. One of my books on the 1920's ("Fashons of the Roaring '20's") has a photo of the "Apache Beadwork Loom" which was used in the US for making beaded sautoirs - and probably belts. Some of the sautoirs pictured have initials - most likely the weaver's.
Thanks so much!!!!
I wasnt sure as it's in pristine condition. Other beaded belts from the 1920's seem to look more worn & the edgin of belt seems to be more pointed (If you knwo what i mean). I was wondering if it is a reproduction, because of the condition.
