Beautiful black coat stumps me

I love everything I've found with the Haddad label, Haddad being an exclusive women's apparel shop in Spokane during my favorite eras of clothing, 1920s through 50s. The shop is first mentioned in 1922 and went out of business in 1957, according to the Spokane Register of Historic Places.

This Haddad-label coat has me baffled. It has silk moiré taffeta used for wide ties, shirred collar and the wide front facing. The lining, to the best of my ability to figure out, is silk faille. In trying to burn threads for a test it absolutely didn't want to burn at all, and the odor was certainly not like rayon. The outer fabric has a waffle-like texture and also wouldn't easily burn. I honestly think it is all silk.

The coat is slightly flaring, with raglan sleeves. There are double welt pockets and long, fairly wide sleeves with narrow cuffs.

Would someone please help me date this coat?

Also, I've missed reading the answer to this: What is the size limit for photos in the new forums? I have the feeling these would still be considered huge!

It's beautiful Maggie! I am guessing late 20s based on material, length and the fact that I have a silk coat from the late 20s with similar sleeves and overall silhouette.

When you attach photos from your files, if it is too big it will not take...so I guess they are not too big!

Stunning! How does it close, are there buttons or is it a wrap, etc? I get an early 1930s feeling from the photos.....that big bow was popular on coats and blouses circa 1931-1933. And the length and silhouette look early 30s too. But I will wait to see what others say, as I really am only guessing here.

The only closure is by the ties at the neck.

Mary Jane, please don't tempt me...I'm >this close< to keeping it! Is early 30s still good for all that silk?

Thank you Tiffany...I get inspired by nice items. Believe me Mary, this is one I will probably remember forever. Sigh!

Jonathan and Barbara, there are no fasteners at all, just the ties at the neck.
