\"Best of\" list of vintage stores in US & Canada

I was googling vintage stores in Columbus, OH, where I'll be going next weekend, and came across this list of "the coolest stores" nationwide and in Canada:

http://www.jargol.com/stores/tags/vintage_clothing/

What do you all think about those picks?

(Also, I found a whole slew of vintage shops on High St, same block as our hotel, but if any Ohio residents out there have further intelligence on good places to shop in downtown Columbus, please share!)

I only saw one listing for a store in Canada -- Salvador Darling, and I have never heard of it! It is in neighbourhood in Toronto I know well but I have never seen it unless it opened there in last few months.

Like Jonathan, I've never heard (or seen) Salvadore Darling
- cool name though!

I've been to a couple of the others on Queen Street West -
nice, but pricey.

My favorite shopping area is Kensington Market in TO (although I've never been in Bungalow - will have to check it out next time I'm there). My favorite store in Kensington
Market is "Courage My Love" - little shop, jam packed with
vintage and reasonable prices.

Not conclusive about Seattle, but not a bad group. Not a thing listed in Portland that I could find, and it isn't like there isn't anything! I might offer some suggestions. This is a great type of reference to come across.

I see... One of the problems here is they are calling some of these stores 'vintage', which i wouldn't. I know there is that whole mamastone kind of selling technique out there but 69 vintage on Queen Street West in their list I have seen -- I walked past it, looked in the window and kept on going when I realized the oldest thing in the store was probably from about 1989 I couldn't grasp why they were still in business -- I come from the old guard of vintagistas who get our hands dirty looking for old clothes... I really don't want some fashion merch student style some goodwill stock for me at a premium price.

I like the idea of a list like that in principle, in reality how much use is it really, shops can open and very close quickly and the comments well! I did not read a bad one which gets me thinking a lot about it's credibility.

I do wonder how useful it is especially if you just a novice in collection or buying.

Hey, Carrie! Where did you find a list of stores in Columbus? I couldn't find them on the site you mentioned. I haven't been to the city for years and am woefully under-informed on vintage stores. But I only live about an hour away, and it would be fun to meet up with you next weekend if you have some time.

Oh, and if you'll have a car here, you might want to check out the Springfield Antique Show. It's around 40 minutes from downtown, and it happens to be next weekend. I'm planning on going to the show on Saturday.

Laura--I was actually hoping YOU could tip me off on where to find the vintage goodies! :USING:

There wasn't anything for Columbus on the "Jargol" list, but googling "vintage clothing" in Cols produced a bunch of names/addresses all on High Street (so hopefully pretty near our hotel):

http://www.google.com/search?client...age+clothing+columbus+ohio&btnG=Google+Search

(The only vintage shop I remember by name from our 6 year sojourn in Columbus was called "Hoi Polloi", and it seems to have vanished, alas...)

The reason we are travelling in is to take my son to a gaming tournament Sat/Sun in downtown Cols (it's his "graduation from middle school gift), so we'll need to stay fairly close to the convention center he'll be at the whole time (also--you got it!--on High st). I'm SOOO tempted by the Springfield show, but it's really too far away for comfort... We'll be visiting some old friends & my sister-in-law's family, but I'm hoping to squeeze in all the vintage shopping my DH can stand!

I would love to meet, but am not sure exactly when the "free" time on this trip will be (or how much of it I'll have, considering my better half and I will be sharing the rental car, lol!)

I will definitely report afterwards on any worthwhile destinations I happen upon...
