Best place to find a mens 1940-esque suit?

Hello Group.

I am a hardcore Halloween enthusiast and this year, I am hosting a party with a 40s hotel theme. I am looking for a suit/costume to wear for this. I want something that screams 40s, not something very conservative. Don't want to pay a fortune, but not looking for free either. I might want to "Zombify" it a little bit. Something for my wife who will be a housekeeper would also be grand.

I'm probably a 42-44 coat, 6' 3" and 195lbs, so not real oddball size needed.

Where to go look for something like this? I looked on eBay a little bit, but it is not well indexed, TONS of stuff. Other sites? Stores? Anyone here have this kind of clothing?

Any other ideas for a 40s hotel decor??

You will probably be looking at 80's double breasted grey or pinstriped suits for the cheaper alternative. If you get a machine washable one you could also reuse it after getting the fake blood out

Melanie makes a good suggestion. At your height, you will have an easier time looking at 1980s double breasted suits with pleated pants and cuffs. These can still be found reasonably at vintage shops and even thrifts. Then add a long point collar shirt, a wide 40s tie and suspenders, and maybe even a fedora to push the 40s effect.
