I am sure this is not new news to you all "BIBA is back", However I thought you might be interested to know BBC South East Today and they did a 1 minute slot about how BIBA is coming back.
Unfortunately I did not even see all this as I was washing up the pots and pans at that very moment just my luck.
I got the impression that it was the original store that was re-opening I am sure some one can expand on this as the BBC are not always right on the ball when it come to news like that, and put me right.

I may spit feathers if the new label is indistinguishable from the old ones. It's troublesome enough for most people with the '90s relaunch, 'though I can spot them a mile off! I'm really quite against this relaunch. Freud is a very talented designer (once trained by Ossie Clark) who doesn't need to raid the Biba archives for her designs. They're nice clothes but at prices which would make any serious VINTAGE Biba collector's eyes water, with questionable quality from what I hear.....well, I won't be buying until they're in charity shops. The whole ethos of Biba was affordability, this is just a complete travesty! Barbara Hulanicki is dead against it too, which is good enough for me.

I don't think they'll be using the same shop, the Derry and Toms building now contains Marks and Spencer, H&M and Gap I believe - and probably offices above those shops so they'd have a hard time taking it back to how it was. I've not hunted down the other locations, but I would imagine they'd be too small.

It's meant to be a mix of both, but I think the main selling point is that you can buy repros of some of the old ones. Like I said, Freud is a talented designer and I'm sure her original designs will be fabulous but I'm not sure she'll be able to emerge from the shadow of the Biba legacy.

I think that was the general consensus of the reviews from London Fashion Week, 'nice enough but nothing new - how will Bella Freud develop this?'

You cannot beat the original well they might try and get close, but in the end what ever they make will be like oh it is 2006/7 for the collectors, and if some one see you wearing something which has just been made it invites the question " is that original" A little off putting I would think for you if you had just bought it.

It might well put up the price of the original BIBA as well.

The label that is visible on a top in sept uk vogue has a gold background, with the black biba logo. I'm in two minds about this new re-launch of biba, but i think the main ideas behind the label are some what undermined. £400 for a dress may be one thing, but who would pay that when they can have the original for the same price or cheaper? This re-launch can only raise the profile of biba higher and i think prices may start to go up. According to the vogue article, "biba is available at Harrods, Harvey Nichols, liberty and matches"

In complete agreement with the Bella Freud thing. From what I read the much awaited Biba show was overshadowed by the edgier Topshop..which is ironic really as the price range and clientele they are aiming at are probably that of the original Biba type. Do you think?
