Big \"E\" Levi\'s...Added photos...

I found a pair today. (!!!!!) I couldn't tell from the photos on the label resource, if they have the circle R, registered trademark, on the red tab. And what kind of patch for the label on the back.

There are absolutely no other tags, and I don't see any evidence of one cut out.

There is selvidge on the outside seams. The seams are somewhat narrower (I think), about 3/8".

They seem old to me, and smell a bit musty. I'm REALLY hoping they aren't a re-issue. The pocket fabric feels all cotton, as opposed to the cotton poly blend they used later.

I'm going to email the contact on the Levi's site, as well.

I was just hoping someone here would have an off the cuff answer! It says on their site, she may take a few weeks to reply. I can't wait!!

Thank you in advance! I'll try to post photos soon!!

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!

It looks like I have a late 60's, early 70's pair.

Although, I do have a question about a Lee jacket, 101 J. I have a never washed jacket, looks like the label dates to the 70's, but there is a loose union label in the pocket that dates to the 50's.

I guess I should go by the label sewn into the coat. ??

Thanks, again, in advance!!

Hi Sandi, I'm just catching up on some VFG reading from this (monster hectic) week, and noticed your post. I've had a few Big E's and can probably help if you have any pics to post.
I did find this site http://www.levisguide.com/index.html most helpful, and the fellow that runs it is pretty nice, too!

Sorry for the late reply!

Thank you both!

I'll try to post some pictures today.

Sandi

Here's a link to the images.

I am kind of concerned about the paper tag. It doesn't say "made in usa". And there is no size, even remotely visible. But there is the two different colour stitching, and the number six on the back of the top button.

I emailed the Levi's website listed above. And will more than likely email the Levi's historian.

(We shall see!)

Probably should have done that sooner! Things were looking good until I really looked at the paper label!

Here is what the Levi's Guide gentleman said:

" Had a look at your pictures. My guess is that they are 69-71. The patch however throws me a little. The jeans are almost definately made in the usa, but have a strange patch on them. Maybe it was replaced? Patches for jeans made in canada, uk, etc. are pretty much identical but they dont have the made in ... written on them, although there is no size or model designation on them as well. They should have 501 stamped with possibly a, s, f on top, that would date them to mid sixties, and its not like they were a transition piece as the 501 small e made afterward would have had size/model and usa printed on them. The only thing I can suggest is to contact Lynn Downey at Levis and she may be able to explain it. [email protected] is her email. It may take a few days for her to get back to you, she receives a bunch of questions like this.Let me know how it turns out. Jeff - webmaster levisguide.com"

So now I am waiting for a reply from Lynn, or her assistant.

I cannot wait to find out what they say.
