This was given to my father many years ago and was given to me about 8 years ago. I did contact Mr Willie Wisely who was the manager of the Billie Holiday estate and have attached a copy of the email. I truly don’t see any reason for this to exist if it was not personally owned by Billie Holiday. I did some searching and found that she did, in fact, have some of her clothing monogrammed.

I agree that while it is possible that the coat belonged to Billie Holliday, without provenance it will always remain just conjecture. It's possible, too, that it simply belonged to an admirer. Finding a photo of BH wearing the coat would be helpful.

I immediately saw the flowers in both the lining and the flower in the monogram embroidery as gardenias. I might surely think this is her jacket, with the monogram signature and the gardenias, but of course one definitely cannot state that as its true provenance without some further proof. Its definitely worth keeping it and doing more research. I hope you find that it was hers!
