Black cashmere. Uncontrollable?

I've never noticed that with black cashmere! Since new cashmere is too expensive, I buy modern secondhand ones or vintage. I wash them mostly by hand, occasionally I put the modern ones in a laundry net and into the machine, cold water, delicate cycle. So far they've all survived well enough, modern and vintage ones, and not all the modern ones are of the same quality. I can't say that black fares less well than colors. I wash my wool too btw, I know what you mean about refreshed and cleaned! I've started to look for more easy to care for materials in vintage that I wear regularly (meaning day wear) too because of that reason.

By "denser" do you mean it shrinks up a bit? I also wash all my wool and cashmere sweaters, including black, and have had no issues with shrinkage nor changes in sweater shape.

I would so do that too if we could get them that cheap at clearance! No chance of that here, but I get them at the Caritas secondhand shop for around $35. Some are by higher end US labels (of which that shop gets more than you'd think), some are just from a Swiss department store chain that sells them new for fairly reasonable prices (as in reasonable for cashmere - they're still a tad too expensive for me when they're new!), and some are Benetton. They all keep up well, so I find the new price of them has nothing to say. Cashmere is cashmere and it's all good. Shopping for secondhand stuff like that actually has made me buy more quality things and also much more appreciative of quality materials - how they wear, how they last (as in forever). Now I really look out for labels and good materials whenever I go there. Anything wool, silk or cashmere that doesn't look like an XL gets tried on. I found a pair of wool/cashmere Jil Sander pants there that are so lovely warm and look great - and work perfectly with one of my vintage cashmere cardigans. I was the only one not shivering at a business event a few weeks ago that was held in a big, rather cold hall :)...

I wash cashmere clothes in baby shampoo by hand, then I'm hanging it on a hanger for not losing a shape and it looks well. Try not to use a washing machine, because cashmere is very sensitive and can not to stand it.

I have two cashmere cardigans and one Ann Taylor's pullover. All of them was bought in second-hand for about 4-5$ and I love how warm and soft they are.
