Black Velvet Cloak Date Help - Pennsylvania Shop Label

Hiiiiiii all! :)

I went hardcore thrifting today and surprisingly came upon a couple of real vintage items here - prior to 1970 is a shocker for me to find anymore near the city. I went a little further out in NJ and found a gem - a black rich velvet long evening jacket? It has a hood - makes me want to call it a cloak. Some pretty sparkly buttons and a label that reads Worth's Harrisburg York.

these are quick and dirty pictures, but I was hoping someone could help me nail down a date - it seems earlier than 50's to me... and that's really out of my realm. Also thought the label might be interesting to some folks from around PA?

Hi Justine! It must be from around the 40s, as Hollis said, because I don't think Worths has been in York for decades. Even though I'm not a native Yorker, I'm familiar with several of the old high-end department stores around here that closed down in the 70s and 80s. And Worths must predate them. I also have a few 50s' & 60s' pieces from Harrisburg stores, and I don't think Worths is among them. I'll see if I can find out anything about it from the locals around here!

Gracias my friends! :)

My pictures really are just quick cell phone snaps, but I will get something more proper tomorrow when I take photos of the haul for listing. Cloudy in NYC today and I like natural light for photos. I truly hate taking pics of black items. The velvet is in real nice shape, the buttons are missing some stones but they're original.

This gorgeous... what's the approximate size and where are you going to list it? An evening coat is still on my wishlist (all my coats looks horrible with my vintage evening wear!), and right now I actually have a little extra money to spend :), so I should start looking.

Hey all,

The coat sold at Etsy! I appreciate all the help. Sorry I didn't get a chance to check back. I should've subscribed to this thread so I would've gotten an email when someone replied. I'm sorry I didn't get back to you Karin!
