Blitz Parties in London

mmmm - spam sandwiches and ersatz coffee.... I hope they allow smoking! EVERYONE smoked during the war!

Smoking is banned inside clubs and even though this is held under a railway arch in East London it still counts as a venue, unfortunately. I don't smoke but the chaps in our club all smoke and had to take their pipes outside, most disgruntled they were about it.

There were a few people wearing bloodstained bandages (from the WW2 bombing) which I thought was cute!

For a minute I thought you meant the New Romantic Blitz Club nights!!! :duh2::hysterical:

It looks very fab! I'd love to learn swing dancing and partake of all this, but I'm a little bit scared - it's not my normal homeland, period-wise I mean!!

Oh, thats some wonderful costuming!

I have a good friend who was there for the real thing, and as a young kid thought air raids were just great...lots of attention, company, music. It wasn't until she grew up that she appreciated her position as a Jewish child in London.

Everybody know HOPE AND GLORY?

There are New Romantic Blitz Parties?!

Liz - I'll let you know of upcoming parties that you might fancy going to - I can't swing dance either! The fun thing about these type of parties is although its a WW2 theme people come dressed in all sorts: there are the chaps in their smart bespoke suits, the military types, burlesque girls, the wounded!, and others like me who like to mix and match their vintage. Its just fun

Wow that look awesome! I would LOVE that! Like Nicole said- damn the tyranny of distance! Maybe someone in Australia should have a Victory in the Pacific night- and Nicole and I could outift it !!!years back I worked on the VIP 50th anniversary and it was loads of fun to make and source all the costumes :)

Nicole

The Blitz theme sort of fits the mood of recession hit Britain right now too. The place was decked with Utility stuff. It would be fun if you had an Australian version of this party, considering our countries close ties during that period. I think the theme "Business As Usual" would be very appropriate for these economincally strapped times!
