I went to the Press Preview at the Met last week. This is much smaller than the May exhibit but it is really a treat!
The focus is on new acquisitions and was underwritten by Manolo Blahnik who was on hand. The 65 designs range from an 18th century lavishly embroidered man's red wool suit to a 2005 Galliano for Dior deconstructed ballgown.
One of the most beautiful dresses was by Rodarte--a new house. You can visit the Met's website www.metmuseum.org to read comments by visitors.
The designs were mounted on invisible mounts with some on revolving stands. This biggest disadvantage was the glass cases in the Costume Institute. And, of course, everyone complains about dim lights but that's to be expected.
The exhibit will run through April 13 if you are going to New York during that period. Claire
