Bodice date double check

This lovely is wool with a cotton lining, silk and velvet detailings and muslin backers. The front has neat pockets hidden where the collar flaps fold over, where the layering is. I found a hankie in there, luckily it didn't appear used (washed it anyway!).

Now, I stink at Vict and Edw dating, but I'm guessing after looking at some books and picking my wee brain, that this might be about 1890s?
Set me straight.

Also, it's sorta Hershey bar brown, does it come off that way? Had the worst time with my coloring on this one.

Thanks! Jenn

Mid 1890s, I think. Sleeves reached their maximum fullness around 1895, if I remember correctly.

A sort of modified leg of mutton sleeve came back in the early Edwardian era, around 1905-1906, but the fashion illustrations I have show a sleeve that is full from shoulder to elbow. Yours looks 1890s to me.

Jonathan or Hollis would probably know for certain.

I think its more likely 1906ish with the wide revers, double puff sleeve with tight cuff and pouching at the front of the bodice. People are going to have the same problem in the future telling the difference between 1970s and 1990s platform shoes, or late 60s and late 80s mini dresses. They are so similar sometimes its difficult to tell.

I just saw the photo quickly before I went to bed Saturday night (had to get up at 4am so didn't have time to post) but I thought it did look Arts and Craft style to me which would be at the beginning of the Edwardian era. The sleeves looked more "droopy" (for lack of a better word) than 1890's sleeves did which fits with Jonathan's date of 1906ish. The pouching is typical of early Edwardian styles too. :)
It was probably part of a walking outfit as well.

Weird, but I had a dream last night about this bodice, and I was second-guessing my assertion that it was 1890s.

I'm glad you guys came around to correct me! :)
