hi all... more form that estate... This is my favorite one in the whole bunch! and it is in perfect condition... like new!! I LOVE IT.... but I dont have the boobs to fill it out lol. it like a 36 C/D lol

Any who I know its 50s, but is it early to mid? and I am listing this on e-bay I need a good descriptive title to help get hits.. as well as help "selling" it in the description. I think this is my best piece and I want it to do its best!

Would shelf bust be appropiate?n and bombshell? its really a deep depp navy blue.. like uniform blue. The picture of the fabric behind label matches the closest to the true color. Oh and the label reads sommers-herbert miami fl

thank you all... I look up to all of you so much:adore:,, I just hope in the next year I can be at a level to give advice instead of taking it all :-) even though we never quit learning! I would like to be conident!

thank you again!

Jennifer, I'm breathless over this....

I think mid 50s, more to the earlier side of the mids, so I think you're right in your assessment there. Bombshell Marilyn full skirt illusion lace, etc., etc. Is it silk taffeta? Even if acetate or rayon I would use "taffeta" as a KW. I can't see the detail well enough on the bustline, but it doesn't appear to be a true shelf bust, but only based on what I can see....

It's really gorgeous!

bust pic

what exactly is a shelf bust? It has gathers inder the bust and kinda cups them? just wondering thank you!!! :-)

label

sorry about that.. I wrote what it said in description.. yeah I could not find anything on them but you have that wonderul New papaer resource!! :-)

sommers-herbert miami florida

what do you use if I may ask?

oh and as far as silk or whatever tafetta... Man i just kinda learned the feel of rayon lol... I am not good with fabrics at all... I need to spend more time in a fabric stor but have not had the time yet.

That really is lovely! You may look again for another label. That is one I would expect to have a designer label and a department store label. Look under all the skirt layers, especially along the zipper seam. That illusion neckline reminds me of something Peggy Hunt might have done. Oh yeah, and what is your ebay id. I know many of us would enjoy watching this one.

Ok i am not sure what silk tafetta feels like vs acetate but this has a soft flowing feel.... there is some sheen to it but not really. does not look polished or "slick" personaly would think a a silk but like I said do not know acetate?

Um as far as label.. there is a cardboard/canvas order number and style label. But I have found no other . There is a crinoline attached to it and has 4 boning strips. 2 of which are in the bust areas. all the way from the wait to the top of the cups and shaped to the cups.

????

oh yeah I am Vintage_Visage on e-bay..... :-)

Its ok thanks for trying :-) perhaps a little shop that did not last long.... they moved (her and her husband) to the florida bases in 1952 so a good guess it this is froma littl shop in Orlando and close to 1952? :-)

thanks all for your help.....

Jennifer

What a stunning dress, I would think judging by the styling alone it would be more apt to be a silk taffeta.

Reminds me of some of the gowns Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.

Good luck with this one, it should do very well for you, you might want to add more crinolines for your ebay photos, just remember to say so and say the extra crinoline is NOT included.

This was in the Rn look up:

WOW

Yeah its silk tafetta... I took an other dress to the cleaners this morning and they told me it was acetate tafetts so now i know the difference in the feeling... deffinately different :-) much softer and plyable......um so is this dress 60's causse i just know it is eraly to mid 50s? or is 60s jsut when this store registered? thank you for the info :-)

NEW NEW NEW NEW :-) info.. so when I re took my pictures more in detail I noticed this nice little feature under the bust "lifting" it up, so this is a shelf bust then techinically right?

also OMG she was close personal friends with the neiman marcus brothers!! the youngest of which was like her best friend.. I had a lady who lived next door to her meet me at the auction and offered me photos of her in certain dresses (as she was basically the godmother to her child) well she said this about the neiman marcus brothers and she has a few photos of her with them! so I think I will be offering those photos with the neiman marcus stuff when I get to it!! This is sooooo neat!!!

os here is a picture of the bust line for confirmation on shelf bust?
