bracelet design

I saw a woman wearing a pair of bracelets on Sunday that were most unusual.

They were gold and quite dainty. They encircled the wrist and had a matching "chain" that wrapped under the middle finger.

She was wearing a kimono-style garment, but not a real kimono, in white/gold brocade with turquoise silk pants and gold trim. I couldn't see the top.

My guess is that the jewelry and ensemble might be Thai or Pakistan. Any help from those of you who are more knowledgeable? C

I remember these - They're called hath panjas. They are seen a lot in belly and bollywood dancing. My mother loved India and she like to wear sariis and Indian jewelry - which can be very embarrassing when you are a teenager in Connecticut.

Your mom was WAY cool, Amanda! (Though I get how the teenager-in-connecticut part of the equation dampened things for you a bit...)

I was just skimming my Oct Vogue over lunch and there was an article about a jewelry designer, Alexa Norton, who is doing a costume (rhinestone and sterling, very pricey) riff on traditional "panja", which the mag describes as bracelets and ring attached by chains.
