Brick and Mortar: Best shops around the world?

Hi everyone,

As you may know, I'm writing a book about vintage clothing. Although the focus is on Australia, there's a section which includes the best vintage shops internationally.

I could compile a list from existing references, but you know how it is: they aren't necessarily up to date. For example a recent book listed a famous Australian shop that has been closed down since the owner died almost a decade ago!

Can you help me? Please recommend your favourite brick and mortar shops - preferably ones that have been trading for at least a few years so they'll likely to still be around when the book comes out.

Later, I'll ask about websites too, as a seperate thread.

thank you!
Nicole

We'd love to be included, though Oregon is hardly your next-door neighbor. We've been in business since 1967, may be the first antique shop to feature vintage clothing on the west coast....and certainly have had one of the longest runs. We just signed another 3 year lease, and hope to be around for another generation.

Well, I'd love to be mentioned, there aren't many in my area!! (Iowa, that is). I havent been open a few years, just one, but its going well and cant imagine I will close up....if anything, I may move to a nicer space eventually!

Thanks, Ladies! I should have mentioned that I'll be including any b/m shops owned by VFGers!

any other suggestions? For London and Glasgow I have the ones I went to when I was there three years ago - Cornucopia, Radio Days, Annie's, Cloud Cuckooland, Saratoga Trunk, Circa (of course) and Old Hat, but have no idea if they're still going - some of course, are institutions but even institutions close down (like poor old Steinberg and Tolkein last year. What a pity!).

Any info gratefully received. Did I mention that I'll give the VFG a big thank you in my book?

Billings Montana - Montana Vintage
Fabulous shop and while it moved last year she has been in business for a long time and has a great reputation. She has a website but no real online action thats just a brick and mortar. I think the new address is 2509 Montana Avenue Certainly worth mentioning though. Very nice shop

Hi Nicole
I don't think there are many Irish people on this forum so I will take the liberty of listing some shops in Dublin...
Jenny Vander, Drury Street
The Harlequin, Castle Arcade
Wild Child (furniture on George's street..clothes in Temple Bar)

personally, I think Jenny Vander and The Harlequin are absurdly overpriced...and well Wild Child is more retro...

I love Beyond Retro on Cheshire Street in London- affordable but some good finds!

Good luck with the book!

Amy
