Hi i have this brooch, I got it from a vintage thrift shop... I dont see any makers markings.. i dont think its gold. but the stones are a crystals I am pretty sure.. they have rainbows :-) but i know nothing of acessories and not trying to learn right now I am on overload! :-)

what do yall think?

also it is about 3 inches in diameter

That looks like a nice costume jewelry brooch in a gold tone finish with aurora borealis rhinestones and a glass moonstone center. 1960s?

Okay, jewlery gals, How far off am I?

Hollis

deffinately no pearl look to it... vey yellowy and has a "shimmer" band in the center.... like cats eye ???stones don't know if that is the correct term.. or wait tigers eye.. i think tigers eye is the stone

I agree with everything Hollis said. It really looks more moonstone to me and with the rainbow look of the stones, I would definitely say aurora borealis rhinestones. Where I get stuck is dating. With it being gold tone with the type of clasp it has, 60's is a very good guess.

It's a really pretty piece and I just love it! It could be worn with so many things!

Sincerely,
Tara

Since we dont know if this is simulated moonstone or real, to be safe anywhere from $20 - $30 would be appropriate in my opinion. It's in such good condition and appears to have all of its rhinestones. It doesn't look like any of the rhinestones are dead, which is also a major plus.

Of course this is just my opinion. I hope I'm not off too much! What were you thinking is fair? You know how much you paid for it and are willing to part with it for.

I know we're not supposed to discuss prices on here so I hope I'm not offending anyone by offering my opinion.

oh i dint know we were supposed to discuss prices.. sorry I asked then lol and I read all the info... guess I just forgot... Um I ddint buy it for me.. I dont wear accessories but I bought it to help sell an 80s 30 inspired dress, by suggestion... I paid like 7 bucks for it and yes all the stones are bright and pretty,, and I guess I could heat a needle and stick it to the back of the stone, and see if it melts :-)

But no I have no idea on price of brooches.... so $20 - $30 is good... Cause I could list the dress and the stone for $30 and I know that would be fair for both the buyer and me... thats what I was wondering, whether i hsoiuld just keep it or will it help :-) the dress I paid like 6 bucks for... But together someone might buy the "set" for one piece but I didnt want it to be a ridicolous price or cheat the buyer! THank you so much!!!

I don't know if "not discussing prices" is an actual rule. I thought I read on a thread once that it's considered in poor taste to discuss where we get our vintage items, so I just assumed that included pricing too.

Please, someone tell us if we're doing wrong. I don't want to do anything to upset the apple cart being being brand new here and all.

Jennifer- you'll do well. Trust your instincts but do a little research online if you just can't seem to get yourself to listen to....um....yourself. :puzzled:

Sincerely,
Tara
