Burberry Prorsum Tuxedo

I know this is a fairly vague question, but I thought I'd put it out there anyway. I have an oportunity to purchase a Burberry Prorsum mens tuxedo for super cheap- $50. I came acrossed it and wasn't even sure if it was authentic because I'd never seen a Burberry label with an "s" on the end. But thanks to the VFG label resource I matched up the label. I am not a "dealer" more of a collector, wearer and appreciater of vintage clothing. So I'm not really sure of what to do with it if I were to buy it. The charity shop that owns it has no idea of who Burberry is and feel it would be a shame to pass it up. So.... how would I turn it over? Does it sound like a prudent investment? I normally only buy things I can wear. The tux is truly amazing though- 100% wool, satin details and just gorgeous. I don't want to get stuck with it....

It is not easy to advise you because there are a number of factors going into it. Research consignment shops and designer resale in your area to see if you can reasonably expect to "flip" it - for example, if a designer consignment shop is selling men's suits for $100 and up, and works at least a 60-40 split, you can be sure that you can at least make your money back (as they would get more for tuxes). About now would be the time to start bringing fall stuff to the consignments and winter stuff, but you may have an extra month or so for holiday formals.

On ebay, there is not a lot to go on. Based on completed auctions, it doesn't look hopeful, but maybe as we approach the fall charity dinner and holiday season and homecoming it will ramp up. If you decide to sell online, guys who buy new designer stuff expect the listings to be very well presented. The "thrown on the bed" won't work - they want it to look never worn even if it was. To me if you don't have a "following" on ebay, etc i might skip it. Size is a factor too. sometimes odd sizes sell because guys are looking around for things that they can't find anywhere else online....so don't worry if its not a huge size, but it may sit if it has been altered a lot. But again, if this is not your sort of thing... You also want to grab a men's mag and find out what's hot in tux styles

Or, are you considering 'sitting on it' until it gets older?

I didn't really have any ideas on what to do with it! I've sold only a few things on ebay, so I definately do not have a following. It was such an amazing tux and I thought the price very cheap for Burberry- but what do I know, I've never purchased a tux in my life! Anyway, thanks so much for the input!

It is NOT a Burberry Prorsum piece if it has the s at the end.

All Burberry knights have the Prorsum on the flag. In fact I believe that it was first registered in 1901 that way.

the newer labels the word Prorsum is less evident on the flag than the older pieces.

If it were from the Prorsum line it would say the word Prorsum underneath the Burberrys London.

The tuxedo is at least 12 years old. I think Burberry dropped the S in 1998.

If it were me, I would have passed on it at that price. For me, tuxedos have never done well and you would have likely just barely made your money back on it. (assuming you are selling somewhere like ebay)

Now if it were the Prorsum line, or even a more recent piece, I would have snatched it up.

I have decided to pass on the tux. I figured, if I can't were it, I shouldn't be bothered with it. That being said, I never said it was from the Prorsum line, I was just reciting what was on the label. The label is an identical match to what is listed on the label resource, an eighties jacket, I believe. Thanks for the input.

You come across as being less than happy with my information, even though I was trying to be helpful and save you some money.

When you put Burberry Prorsum Tux as a title, Burberry buyers will assume you are meaning that it is from the Prorsum line (as I did), even though you did not specifically say that it was from the Prorsum. When selling Burberry you never put Burberry and Prorsum together unless it specifically says Prorsum on the label underneath BURBERRY LONDON.

Since the Prorsum line is much more expensive than the regular Burberry line, your buyers would be expecting something from that more expensive line. At the best you would likely get some messages from buyers telling you that it is not the more expensive line, at worst you would have to deal with claims of ebay which are a huge headache, as any seller on ebay can attest to now a days.

While you may not find that information helpful, I am sure others on the board will. I am also sure that others will find my experience with selling Burberry on ebay helpful when they are making the decision as to if they will purchase something in a resale shop and are planning on making a profit from it.

Many posters here have helped me many times and I am thankful that I am finally able to give back to the other board members by passing along information that I do know something about.

I did appreciate the information- that's why I thanked you for your input. I did state that I am not a seller, so I am completely green about turning over an item. Once again, I thank you for the information.
