Burberrys Yellow Label Tweed Jacket

I have a women's brown tweed jacket with a label that I cannot find information on. The only yellow label that is in the resources guide is from the 1930s but the design of this label is not the same. I've Googled images like crazy and various sites, even called the flagship store in NYC where I'm located but they won't authenticate unless you know the store where the item was bought. Not possible for this because it's from a thrift shop. I have a feeling it's 1970s-80s, but would love to be able to know for sure. I've read at least 1 interesting thread here on Burberry labels but couldn't find information on this particular one. I've attached 3 pics. There are buckles on both sides of the hips and cuffs, plastic brown buttons, and a brown lining (not show). Any information??

Liz, you're quite right - that label doesn't look much like any of the ones in the LR. I wouldn't go by the colour too much, as labels are often produced in multiple colours - of more interest is the logo, font and wordings.

Now, I can't say that I like that label much - but more because the way it has been sewn in, isn't good. It's possible the jacket has been relined and the seamstress didn't take care with how she sewed in the label - the ends shouldn't be raw like they are, and it looks like it's been machine sewn onto the lining. If you look at how it's been sewn at the top, to the tweed, it should help - if it's not original you will probably find hand stitching.

The jacket itself looks like something an older lady might have worn in the late '70s to early '80s.

I agree the label doesn't look right - it looks brand new - there doesn't appear to be a fold line either side (the machine stitching on each side is the fray stop on the label only I think), it's only been tacked on at each corner and doesn't appear as old as the jacket itself.

I guess the label is kinda funky in the way it's attached. My first impression was that it was very used and had gone through the cleaners multiple times and that's why the label was unattached but now you've got me thinking...The top is sewn evenly and well into the fabric and the bottom right corner is also sewn, but the sides are not. I see now that because the sides are unattached to the lining but there are no leftover stitches or holes in the lining, which if it was the original, there would be, wouldn't you think? So this label was either sewn in new, or the lining was replaced and the label was re-sewn sloppily. On the other hand, maybe just the corners are usually stitched? In

any event, I can't resell it because I can't be absolutely positive that it's really Burberry. Ugh. Would you agree?

I also wonder if all Burberry lining in outwear (at least vintage) had the classic plaid or not. I can't see someone replacing it with a plain brown lining unless the original was really torn.

Thanks so much, ladies!

Melanie - The sides of the label are not sewn down but the bottom right is, but there are fold lines on either side, they're just not sewn down! I would think Burberry labels are completely sewn on all sides and was just attributing it to heavy wear and multiple dry cleanings. The top is sewn well and evenly and so is the bottom right with maybe one or two stitches. But there are no "leftover" stitches in the lining which, if it was the original, there would be, wouldn't you think? So maybe it is a new lining and the label was just re-sewn in sloppily. Also wonder if Burberry made lining in plain colors and not the classic plaid for all outwear. I can't see someone replacing it with a plain brown lining unless the original was really torn.

Nicole - I agree that it's probably 70s-80s. But that means I can't resell it as Burberry since I can't be positive. Ugh.

Thank you ladies!
