Bus Stop Date help

Hiya,

This black slightly stretchy top is labelled Bus Stop and has no care or fabric labels. I've looked up the Bus Stop label on resource and wondered if this top is THE Bus Stop or something else.

Re resource French Connection took over Lee Bender Bus Stop 1979.

I noticed pre French Connection the 1960s/70s labels always have Lee Bender on them, so can't be 1960s or 70s then, but why doesn't it have the care label....

Your help would be great.

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Sarah, Interesting one this. Your label doesn't look like the Bus Stop labels I'm familiar with which usually have the gold or silver lettering on a black background. The lettering also appears more curvy than the red lettering shown here. I'm not saying this isn't genuine 'Bus Stop' but I just don't know enough about the label to confirm one way or another. It's a cute top! :)

Looks like a polyester fabric. Perhaps other members will be able to provide more information for you. :)

There are/were lots of 'knock-off' labels from Asian manufacturers. This looks like one of them probably not trying very hard to represent the original Bus Stop. The braid trim looks Indian or Pakistani. It may never have had a care label or it was removed.

Thanks for feedback everyone. I had a gut feeling it wasn't geniune especially when I looked up label resource, but was a bit thrown re lack of any care labels , cos I thought they would have been there, or even a fabric label.

My first vintage fair is next Sunday & have been busy labelling, and this is one of a few items I've had doubts about and certainly didn't want to sell this as vintage, when really it isn't.

Thankyou!

Sarah

Alas, indeed, not original Bus Stop. There are also various faux Bibas and there was even a 90s Jean Varon label (of all things) - so be careful everyone. Most bizarre.... :puzzled:

Perhaps its not even trying to be a fake (Lee Bender) Bus Stop! It certainly doesn't look like it is.

Its entirely possible that someone thought up the name not realising its previous history, don't you think?

....Hey Sarah, I looked on Ebay and looks like there IS a Bus Stop label as you say not trying to be fake and seems they're advertised on QVC, jeez my vintage nose wasn't working that day! :headbang: Weird that it doesn't have a care label, but it must have been cut off very neatly. I didn't realise as was looking under vintage when searching online.

I don't know anything about Bus Stop, I admit, but just looking at this, I'd say it's pretty new. Looks like something I would have worn ca. 9 years ago... I did have a bit of a "modern hippie"-phase then. And there was a year when seemingly every other top had that shape at the bottom as yours - that was when things went from colorful retro hippie to more retro-70s-disco... 2000/2001 *scratch my head*?
