Buttons buttons

Some of you know I am good friends with a “button person,” Matthew in Normandy France. About three years ago I needed buttons for a 40’s suit and he came through with the perfect set. We are now fast cyber-friends and he has me very interested in buttons.

He recently bought some buttons and put them up on HIS SITE and then sent me this e-mail about the first button in the third row.

I learned something interesting about one of the buttons today... I had seen the Bonfil backmark before and knew that it was something that French collectors liked, but had never looked into it any more than that. One of my button pals asked me about it so I did a little research (ok, I typed Bonfil into google) and found out that that mark was used by a guy who designed jewelry for Cartier and then became a ceramist, starting his career as a button maker. And... that Schiaparelli was among his clients! I don't know if this was a Schiaparelli model, of course, but I do think it's pretty elegant.

He had me appreciating the art of buttons big time!

Thanks Amanda!
That worked.

I know you've mentioned him before.
He has great buttons and you're lucky to have him as a friend:)
