Buyers of vintage patterns...

Would you buy a pattern that was missing a small piece? Like the facing or collar...how 'bout one that was missing the dress but had the pants and jacket...I'm not sure if I should list them or what to do with them, any opinions would be greatly valued...thanks :)

I am not so much a buyer but a sometimes seller of vintage patterns missing a small piece. I have always sold these fine, although not at best prices. I think an experienced pattern user can work with a small missing element. I haven't had the best luck with a major piece missing, like one complete item from a suit. I have such a pattern on Etsy now, and it's been there for quite awhile.

If:

- it's an easily replicated piece - like a facing or cuff (I actually find collars hard to draft so I would avoid it if it was missing that)
- a piece I didn't need (like I wanted to make a jacket and the skirt was missing from a suit)
- I wasn't "collecting" that kind of pattern (for instance, I collect Hollywood patterns, not just to sew, but to have. So in that case, I want one in as nice condition as possible)
- it was very reasonably priced (for instance, in the case of a suit missing its skirt, I would kind of want to pay *less* than half the price the complete suit would have commanded)

Then, I'd consider buying a pattern with a missing piece.

But you never know, sometimes there's a specific pattern or a design that I desperately need, then I might be happy to find it even with a missing piece.

Excellent, I was thinking it should be ok, I don't plan to ask much for them if they're missing anything.

Yes, I would sell.

Also check Pattern Rescue (google it) to see if they happen to have any pieces you need. If it's a nice pattern and you want to try to complete it, it's worth the effort.

guess I'm odd ball out.........I'd say no to selling with missing pieces.

OR - sell in lots "as is" for concepts and design elements.
