Cahill Beverly Hills Wedding Gown

Hello,

Was out and about and picked up this wedding gown today. Label is Cahill Beverly Hills - have found lots of info about designer. I was thinking 50s on this dress but wanted to get clarification. All of the others I have seen listed as 50's have silver print on the label while mine has gold - just dont know if that has anything to do with anything. Dress does have a back metal talon zipper.

Also dress has 3 layers of tulle but I am wondering if it still needs a crinolione. Just how far out do you think it is supposed to "poof?" Would you call this a Cinderella dress?

Was amazed to find in such good condition - it is perfectly clean with not 1 single condition issue noted. Going to have it steamed and pressed but want to make sure I don't mess up the layers. Have seen prices all over the board on Cahill dresses so need to do more research. If you know anything else about the label would love to hear it.

Thanks all! Appreciate your thoughts.

Maureen

Can skip the crinoline question...I borrowed a huge 1 from my sis in law and dress looks pretty amazing with. I would say that is way it is supposed to be! :) Think it needs a hoops though.

Maureen, that's a beautiful wedding gown - the cut of the bodice is wonderful. Very nicely shaped. I would date as late '50s to early '60s. I'd love to see a photo with the extra crinoline!

am working on steaming/pressing everything right now...decided to do myself. will post when all done. I am in love with this...want to get married all over again - and lose a million pounds to fit into this! :)

It is absolutely stunning! I agree with Nicole on the dating. Usually you don't see those gusseted sleeves (those are gussets I see, aren't they?) much past the 50s, but it's not unheard of, and wedding gowns sometimes lagged other fashion trends.

Updated Photo

Thanks for all the responses. I appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know a gusset from a russet so I am at a loss to confirm...will Google and get up to speed. :)

So I can now add "pressing/steaming a 4 layer wedding dress" to my list of things I will never attempt again. This is my very very meek effort at pressing the dress. My dry cleaner said she would steam and press for $40.00 and I now have zero problem handing that money over to her - yikes. My back is killing me and I did a terrible job.

It was a good exercise though because I did get to check closer for condition issues - still nothing and crossing my fingers it stays that way. Always afraid of that hidden rip/tear with tulle and lace.

Terrible pics - no light and dont usually take in my dining room! :)

Thanks all!

Thanks for the extra pic Maureen - you have my sympathies on the pressing, these gowns can be a real drama.

I'm still really impressed by that bodice - you have a very high quality gown that someone paid a pretty penny for, back in the day, and they kept it nicely too. Perhaps the gold label indicates it's a better quality than the silver label?

I made an 1850s style gown once, and the bodice was quite similar (minus the folding around the neckline of course).

It is utterly stunning - so beautiful! I like the styling of the bodice too, and how the lace with the flower pattern has been used in the skirt. Ahhh, I can just imagine the rustling of all that tulle - what a dream!
I have sworn to myself, should I ever get married, I will only do it in a vintage wedding dress. They are so much more beautiful than anything modern...

Thanks again...

Nicole - you amaze me with your ambition!

Midge - you would look amaizing in a vintage wedding gown and I would expect nothing less from you. You must promise that when the day comes, we will get to see photos.

Well, I have hit complete brick wall with the label being gold as opposed to the silver of every other Cahill label I have seen. Perhaps it means nothing. I can really only find bits and pieces about Cahill from just a few articles and the heresay of other listings. I am still looking for that end all be all piece that provides a history of the house but possibly it doesn't exist. I am not a crack researcher so think I am going to have to just throw in the towel! :)

Thanks again for all the input. Now to try to get decent photos of the dress...:)
