Ok thank you, you must have a good memory. I have forgotten some things. I know you guys don't usually do non clothes but I don't know where else to go. Ebay has one but it is hard to navigate. I cannot figure out their forum site. So, anyhow thank you for all your help and all you do. :)

I believe your rug is known as a Aubusson rug. They were generally made of wool but they can also be made from synthetic fibers. The best way to determine the age of your rug is to take it to a rug merchant that specializes in hand-loomed (such as Oriental or Turkish) to machine made rugs. The backing on your rug leads me to believe that it is probably wool but the style has not changed much for decades so determining the age by a photo would be very difficult . If you can provide close ups of the fringe and tufting (to see if it is handmade or machine made) that would help in determine if it is contemporary.

It looks like a number of rugs which I used to have, and all were purchased in the 1980s and early 1990s. Most of these rugs were, and are still, made in China. The backing looks like other Chinese export rugs I have seen also. It does look like wool in the photos you show.

These are still being made today.

Lol I wasn't born, but I do remember these at her house when I was growing up and photos I've seen looking back, and my mother remembered the year because it's when my grandmother moved to live closer to her son.
