Can anyone please share info about the Kopp brothers (1940s)?

I haven't been here in ages!

Long ago when eBay still had a really rounded discussion board, a guy named Scott used to post under the ID "BBrueg". He had an amazing array of information which he generously shared. I remember he once mentioned the Kopp brothers.

I've been able to find items in my own inventory and/or online for: Max Kopp, Jack Kopp and now Bill Kopp. All of the dresses I've found are usually 1940s, pebbled or creped rayon, long & lean and fabulous.

Can anyone here shed any light on the Kopps?

Thanks, KD

I will post things as I find them...and the first thing I found is in a 1920's Garment Manufacturer's Index: "ALBANY--Kopp Dress Co., Inc. Brooklyn. To deal in ladies' dresses. Capital, $10,000. Incorporators: Leo Altman, 87 St. Nicholas ave, New York and Jacob and Max Kopp, Brooklyn."

...and someone was/is looking for information about the Kopps: "Looking for the family of Herschel and Rose Kopp, originally from Romania, then NYC, and, finally, Passaic, NJ. Herschel owned a clothing businees, either in Passaic or Paterson, NJ, around 1920-1930.

Herschel and Rose had eight children, all born between 1883-1898: Sadie Kopp Weiss, Bessie Kopp Altman, Charles Kopp, Lillie Kopp, Jacob Kopp, Max Kopp, William Kopp, and Martha Kopp..."

Thanks - it's a start - seems to me there were at least two Kopp brothers, but for some reason they didn't work together on the same lavel.

Until tomorrow I am only able to search via my iPad, which has search limitations. I am, therefore, unable to search the online 1946 Californian magazine for the exact reference to Max Kopp of California, but it seems that Max operated his business in CA at that time.

EDITED to add that I found the Kopp Dress Co. in a 1933 Los Angeles directory.

I have found a couple dresses & from the looks of them, I know they are related - well, at least now I have the family connection (assuming Jack = Jacob) - Sandy must've been Max's wife. The late 40's would be the right era for the dresses I've found - thanks!

Hi KD! It's great to see you here. Hope you'll stick around!
