I went to a sale this weekend and they were selling handmade crotcheted, knitted dresses from the 40-60s. I picked out the best and left behind a bunch (now I'm thinking I should have taken them all.. ah regret... especially the kelly green ribbon dress that I could have fixed but my new mantra is condition, condition, condition) There were several 40s ribbon dresses. I have seen these before but what I really want to know is why people made dresses from ribbon. Was it lack of yarn during the war? Why would ribbon be available and not yarn?
