Can anyone tell me more about this mollie parnis dress?

I picked up this dress today for five dollars at a local antique shop that's going out of business. :( I'd like to know if anyone can tell me more about the brand, or date the dress? Also if I should have just kept my five bucks, ha. I really wanted to wear it, but the zipper is coming apart, as picture in one of the photos. Are zipper replacements easily done? Should I take it to a tailor to have it done? Is it worth it?

Thanks so much, and sorry for so many questions! Also excuse my lack of a dressform, I'm working on it!

hmm I first thought 60s and I think the label confirms that...

For 5 dollars and you bought it for yourself no you can't beat that... If you like the way it fits... I would do a replacement zipper.. now it depends do you want to keep it more authentic? if so buy vintage zippers on ebay or at an online shop, but if it is strictly personal I would get a modern metal zip and take it to a tailor, shouldnt cost mroe than 10 bucks to put it in, mine charges 5 I think...

If it fits nice and you feel good in it money can not replace that. I am looking up the label now lets see if I find anything lol

Molly Parnis is in our label resource (see labels, top of screen). Check and see if your label is there and check the ILGWU labels too. These will both help narrow down a date.

Of course, the style, material are clues but so too is the zipper - it looks like nylon.

I think you did very well for $5.00 it's worth getting the zipper replaced by a pro. - especially if you like it and want to wear it.

Your in luck the label is listed right here in the VFG... even better they don't have a picture of your label so you might like to submit it in the label forum :-)

here is the direct link
HERE

if you want to look up label at ther very top of the forum there is a link, it has a little Doir label beside it! Great resource!! AMAZING actually

oops my bad I passed right over the nylon lol,,, i guess metal zip won't do then hahaha.. late 60s early 70s? anyone else? colors seem more 60s but style wise 70s am I guessing that right?

pluse 1968 is the general year when nylons/plastic zippers became popular in all mass production clothing

I hadn't really tried it on when I had posted and it seems to be a little small in the "rear" area, ha. If I was going to sell it should I replace the zip ? It seems to have been taken in a few inches on one of the sides, which could be let out again. I'm so indecisive!
I was leaning towards early 70's when I picked it up.

well thats a personal decision, from experience if you are selling it on ebay,,, the buyers are more critical, if you have a set price shop or better a actual brick and mortar store or booth somewhere you will have better suceess with a replaced zipper. 70s stuff sells soooo much better in person than on Ebay, at least thats how it works for me... So you will have to debate the cost and if its worth it to you and what you think you will get for it.

That piece at the local shop I go to would fetch about 40 bucks, but we are a small town and she prices her stuff affordably and does nto care about labels...So.... on autcion (Ebay) I don't think it would do well but in an onine store I am sure you will get a little out of it, or a bit if "displayed" well with a good write up/details.

Thank you so much for your response Jluthye! I'm really new to this vintage clothing arena and am glad to have people now to help!

Its ok I am very new too. well 1 year now woohoo but this place had been great I would still be fumbling around in the dark if it werenet for the lovely people here...

I sent you a U2U them you log in its a link at the upper right of you screen, actually its at the top right off all the forum pages

I've been googling all day, and I've seen a lot of pieces by the same designer, from later than the union tag dates this going for 200-400 dollars?! Nothing quite similar to my dress though. :(
