I think those are twisted lucite handles, it has a steel Talon zipper with a pull, and beautiful crotchet work. The inside needs a stitch or two and I believe it is silk or rayon that feels like silk.
It's a corde' purse made from corde' rayon thread. The handles are lucite and these date from the 1940s to early 1950s. Many were homemade but do look for a label. Some have corde' labels and some don't. It's really beautiful with the corkscrew handles.
Thanks for the information. How sturdy are these? I'm a bit torn about selling it and may decide to keep and use it. It's pretty big and I'm just wondering how much I can safely carry without ruining it..
I love big purses. It looks sturdy enough but I'd not carry anything too heavy because of the lucite handles and the fact that the thread is 60ish years old. I have several in my store and I may wind up taking one for myself as well.
Yes - very 40's, like Marge said and most likely handmade. I have a vintage 1945 crochet pattern book of handbags and this EXACT bag is in there, along with dozens of other similar beauties.
