So I'm from Holland, the land of the tulips, and I bought myself a tulip dress!!
It is so gorgous, and I think it is from the fifties, but the seller stated that maybe it could be older. So now I'm curious.

It is a sleeveless dress
extra fabric at the armpits
closes with two metal zippers from Prym, at the back in the neck, and one on the side
Has a matching belt
Has a size label, size 40... About size Large, but the dress is a modern size Small, so this 40 probably is the vintage size
Hand stitched? seams and hem

Gosh, that is super cute!
I think 50s, based on the fabric, the print motif and colors, the silhouette, the construction, etc.

But maybe you could send it to me for a closer look? ;)

Haha I could send it tot you ;) The top of the dress is too tight for me, so I have to let it go. Don't know about the pricetag yet.. Have no idea what the dress is worth. Maybe just put it on my mannequin and stare at it for a while first!

I agree with 1950's and it looks almost unworn! The size tag print is so crisp (I find this fades with washing), original hem I think.

I was reading a great novel last week called Tulip Fever about the craze for new varieties of tulip bulbs in Holland in the 1600s, have you read it?

Haven't read that novel, but googled it and read that they are making a movie from it. It will be screened in cinemas from autum 2015! maybe I'm going to watch that :)

I had no idea and it was filmed here! Judging by the photo released it looks like it's going to be great. My copy of the book includes many colour plates of the original paintings that inspired/were inspired by(?); the story and they have captured the mood perfectly. I didn't know Cressida Bonas (Prince Harry's former girlfriend) was a budding actress either! but she looks perfect for the role (lead character is young, 16/17ish)

Late to the party... Agree on 50s. German/European sizes changed a lot from them. I'm a modern (German size) 34 to 36, but from 50s Burda magazine patterns I would need a size 40, or maybe a 38, so the size tag makes sense.

Didn't know about the Tulip Fever movie - looking forward to that! I read another book on the subject some years ago, called Tulipomania. Highly recommendable!
