Can someone identify crochet on 20s dress?

Hello! So I acquired this really pretty dress and would love to know more about it. Can anyone tell me about the crochet?

The bottom looks like crochet but I suspect the top is a form of lace, that has a fantastic amount of work in it.

Stunning! I am not sure, but it looks a lot like some of the 'altered couture' dresses made from antique and vintage crochet items, like parts of table throws, garments, etc. Possibly a one of kind, possibly not. I am not seeing 1920s or 1930s in this, as the bottom part in particular is too much like a large pattern, airy crochet tablecloth. As these crochet patterns and items were hugely popular and in everyone's homes in the Depression era, it would have looked odd for a woman to wear a dress made from crochet like that.

I could be wrong of course, lets see what others think. I have seen crochet dresses from the early 1930's, so possibly this is one.

Even if it is altered couture, it is very very pretty.

Wow - incredible crotcheting! I agree, the skirt of the dress could be a re-purposed tablecloth or something like it. IMHO, it doesn't look "right" for a dress of the time. I have 30s magazines here with patterns for big tablecloths, though nothing quite like it. Don't know though what my year's worth of 40s magazines will turn up - I have spotted some crazy tablecloths in there too. Anyway, the the 30s mags, in terms of ladie's garments to crotchet mostly feature chic tops, collars and a bit of lacy decoration to adorn your underwear.
