Can you help identify these furs??

Hello!
I have a couple of coats with fur trim I need help with.
The first is a black 60's coat with thick, dense, soft black fur. I'm thinking it is fox?

The second is a tan cape. Is this fur coyote or something else?

Great coats, Carrrie! I think you're right on the first one and the second one I'm not too sure - it kinda reminds me of raccoon, but I'm not familiar with coyote.

I have had a raccoon fur before and a coyote and I still can't decide what it is I'll see what others have to say. I do hope these do well!

Second one looks like it could be raccoon to me, also.

I have a black fur trim gown (70s victor costa) with that same fluffy, thick, glossy look to the trim--it is labelled dyed opossum, so that could be a possibility?

dyed black fox and fox...racoon isnt usually those hues..

Carrie, this is the collar of a men's raccoon coat that I have up now - it looks similar, but yours does look softer for some reason.

The collar on the cape is very soft and fluffy. The guard hairs are long and tipped in silvery cream. It would make sense for it to be fox, the coloring threw me off a bit.

Yes, if it's soft, it's most likely fox.

I was stumped recently by a fur beret--long-haired, thick and glossy like fox, and had reddish-brown coloring with dark undertones, similar to your collar, but it was definitely less soft (almost bristly!) My husband helped me identify it correctly as raccoon.

Yeah! I'm happy they are both fox. The black coat is so gorgeous, but sadly did not fit me I hope my photos do it justice!

neither of those look long/fluffy enough to me to be fox. Fur is sometimes hard to ID unless you can touch it, but neither of those look like fox to me.
actually the black looks like llama or alpaca. I have a llama and several fox coats. The fur has a slight crimp look to it and is thick but not as long as fox. When I put my hand on one of my fox furs it almost disappears.
the brown looks raccoon to me.

l forgot to add that fox should be very sift, hair ends not pointy/sharp and downy fluff at base near skin, racoon is veyr coarse to touch, a surprise as it appears soft, but is quite harsh hair. hth

Okay, the black fur is extremely soft, the underfur is very thick and the guard hairs are long and glossy. There is no crimping at all to the hairs. Isn't fox sometimes sheered a bit??
The second fur is extremely soft and fluffy, if Raccoon is more bristly, then this is definitely not raccoon. Now where do we stand??

well it is hard to say without seeing them in person, I still think neither is fox, and not that that is bad either, I think people mostly bid based on style more than type of fur, and that black one is great.

If you are listing them I would say that you aren't 100% on the fur orgin, just to cover yourself, you can even throw out a guess of fox but don't say you are certain it is.

maybe cmpollack can ask her husband, it would be nice to have a furrier's son on hand.

I sold a GORGEOUS fox coat at the flea market for too cheap, but you can't keep them all. He really haggled hard core, then walked away. I actually was relieved when he left because I really didn't want to go that low but he came back...

The guy that bought it was foreign and looked at the tag and said "Imagine????" and I said "no I. Magnin, it's a good label" he looked confused "it's good? no?" and I confirmed it is indeed a good label and I felt sad letting it go so cheap, he didn't know how good he had it.
He did say it was a gift for his wife and I hope she appreciates her Imagine fox.
