Can you help me date this Dior dress?

Hi,

I bought a vintage Dior dress but have no knowledge of the age except that it was bought by the previous owner over 20 years ago.

Does anyone have any information on where this dress would date back to?

I am also a little worried that this label wasn't listed under Dior even though this was supposed to be authentic, so any information on this would also be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ellanen and welcome to the forums,

The dress looks very early '80s to me, around '80-81. We can't authenticate here but I wanted to point out that the label appears to read "Dior 2" or "Dior L" which may or may not have anything to do with the company of Christian Dior. Additionally, I'd like to suggest that the quality of the labels is inconsistent with the labels of Christian Dior.

Thank you so much for your reply. I will keep pestering the seller for what on earth this "brand" might be. Didn't cost much, but the seller seems to be as confused as I am with this :)
 
I was able to find info for Dior 2 and it was owned and trademarked by Christian Dior:

According to the above, Dior first applied for the trademark in 1987 and then the label died out by 1996. (They may have applied earlier in Europe. More research would be needed.)

There is also info on Gruppo GFT, the manufacturers of the dress:

If you can show the back of the Gruppo label or any other labels that may have the care symbols, that may help narrow down the date.
