Hi there. I'm new here – have just introduced myself in the newcomers forum – and as mentioned there, I came across this forum some weeks ago and have been listening and learning since. What an expertice in here :-)
And now I will dare to start ask some questions too.
Thanks a lot in advance for any answers :-)
First question: can you help me date this dress? It is made from a silk twill fabric, it is machine sewn, but the edges of the sleeves are handstichted and the zipper in the back are hand stichted.
It has a tafetta-underskirt (not silk), the top has no lining.
I can't find any labels/name-tags and I think it looks sort of homemade, though I think it's real nice.

I'm not a native english-speaker, so I hope I use the right words and expressions.
Thanks :-)

The style looks 70s to me but its really difficult to say for sure, could be more recent. I think home sewn dresses are even harder to date.

Love the fabric!

I think I owned this sewing pattern in the 70s....you could sew it in your choice of 3 lengths--mini, midi, maxi. It was retro, styled after 30s dresses.

Not only did I own the pattern - I made the dress! LOL

Wore it to my Jr. year HS Prom (1970). It was some weird pink & blue water color paint strokes gnarly rayon/nylon mess. I thought I was soooooooo hip! :D

And thanks a lot for the answers. The zipper is metal and it sounds rigtthat is is a howesewn 30es-style 70es dress.
I think the fabric is lovely too, and in very good shape.
Thanks again! :-)
