Can you help me date this lovely wedding dress

I'm thinking 60's. There is only the size tag of 6 and appears the tag was cut out. I know I should sell this dress but it's beautiful to me and if I was getting married I would wear it. Right now I have it on my mannequin in my room. I don't want to let it go. This will be a struggle for me that's for sure.

Very pretty dress. With those shoulder pads, it is newer - perhaps 80s. Are there any other labels such as material content?

Looking forward to what others have to say.

Those are breast pads, not shoulder pads, but I bet one would be able to narrow it down with those pads. Perhaps they used them in 80's for breast also? No nothing but the size 6.

Oh ok, well I'm gonna keep it in my room on my mannequin just because I can. :) I would love to think I could wear it someday. Oh please, oh please, oh please, but I think I'm dreaming......I do wonder why though where I got it they put it in the vintage section.

The gown is lovely and a very classic style so it is hard to date. I think it's older and vintage but with no tags except the size tag there aren't a lot of clues. As Deborah suggests fiber content would help.

While sizes vary by manufacturers the measurements might help determine if it's a "modern" size 6 or an earlier size 6. Some time in the 1980's - 1990's what used to be a size 6 became a 4 then a 2 and sometimes even a 0!!!! The bust to waist to hip ratio changed significantly from the 1950's - 1960's but I don't think it is earlier than 1960's. The construction around the neckline does look older to me and I have not seen breast pads in any garments so good to learn that they have been around for a long, long time.

I can definitely see why you would want to wear it - if you were getting married! Nothing wrong with dreaming!

Linn is quite right about the sizes - if you post measurements it will help with dating.

I agree with Maxine in that breast pads have been around for a long time, but I believe these ones to be modern. They could be an addition of course but this style was a recent fashion.

Those breast pads look very much like those I found in a 1950's dress with a sheer upper bodice and sheer cap sleeves.

Ok, measurements are bust 34, waist 28, hips 34. Even if it's not vintage that's okay. I love the dress and I know this seems silly but I wish I would have had a dress that had been passed down thru the family and I had had the opportunity to wear it.. I can pretend with this one...lol. I'm secretly hoping that when my daughter gets married she will want to wear it, but I already asked here and she said no, but she's a brat :) but, I feel there is still hope that maybe in time it will mean something to her as I plan on keeping it in my bedroom till I die.

Dee Dee where are you based? I forgot to mention that sizes vary from country to country.

For example, if the size were a modern Australian one, based on the measurements the bust is an 8, the waist a 10 and the hips a 6. The mixture of sizes suggests it was originally a 10 that was altered to fit a lady who was slimmer in the bust and hips (or perhaps she was in the early stages of pregnancy).

If it's a modern USA dress the correlating sizes are 4,6 and 2 - so a size 6 that has been altered.

In the '50s and '60s different sizing systems were used so assuming the dress is American, I still believe this dress to be modern.

Wedding dresses can be hard to date as the styles are heavily influenced by the past and fashions change slowly. It's a beautiful dress. Your daughter may change her mind or perhaps it could be altered to please her.
