Can you help me date this Reslaw hat?

Hi all,

I'm new here, so I am hoping I have posted this in the right place, etc!

I have a hat with a Reslaw label which I found in a box of old things at a village sale. It was made by Paul Walser & Co Ltd of London. Despite looking all over the internet, I am really struggling to date it - even down to a decade (shows how little I know about vintage hats), so I'd be ever so grateful if anyone out there could help in any way.

Here are two photos which I hope will help. I have more photos on my blog too, if needed:

Many thanks in advance, Emma

Junk, Joules, to put it directly! A bottle of 1945 'Victory' beer, unopened. Old empty bottles, plus some truly horrific crockery!

Hello,

Welcome to the VFG Emma! Thank you for posting this lovely hat. I love the history of the label, how interesting that the milliner did that with his name.

I am not as familiar with London milliners as I am the French and American, but based on the general style and materials I would date to the mid to late 1940's also.

Ooh-er....looks like I somehow broke the rules already by posting a link to my blog :puzzled:

That said, thank you so much for your helpful replies - 1940's it is then!

Bye all, Emms

I bought the box for the hat - the rest is bric-a-brac tat. Sorry - for 'junk' read 'junk to me', in other words I'm not interested in them. Those old Victorian/Edwardian bottles with the marble in are ten-a-penny. Ok, the '45 beer is a tad unusual I suppose. My father claimed that, but I do hope he doesn't get curious and try to drink it! :)

Anyhow, ok, here are the other hat photos:

Whilst on the subject of finding unexpected things in boxes, a box arrived from the USA with what was supposed to have been vintage belts in it, but it turned out somebody shipped the wrong box and it was full of vintage American dresses instead. I am still processing them all to sell from my stand at the vintage fairs (as opposed to online), but here is the first one off my ironing board........late 40's I assume, maybe 50's?......bias cut, unlined, small shoulder pads.....

Here's another. Waltah Clarke. 70's?? Any help dating appreciated:

I can't look at this without thinking of that woman in 'Something About Mary' that had the dog.

And another. Black strapless number, assuming 50's generally, but again, input much appreciated. No label, so nothing to go on.....

I haven't processed all the others, but I'll get around to it one day ;-)

I can't, Deborah - they are direct links to the pictures on my blog. Not my first choice - I did try and post links to the pics, which would have been far less intrusive - but they got deleted from my original post. Like an awful lot of vintage fashion-related blogs you see around the internet, they are connected in some way to a a store. 9 out of 10 are. I tried to follow VFG rules by not directly linking to my stores, but I can't strip my blog of all mention of my selling activities just to post here. I'll have to leave the choice to you I'm afraid - delete my post if it breaks another rule I didn't know about. :puzzled:
