Carrie Couture Dress?

I am thinking 1960s.

I have found some association with Felix Arbeo and this label on Ruby Lane.

Some elaboration would be much appreciated.

Embroidered overlay fabric.

Assuming though name Couture not real Couture?

Beautiful dress though. Love the daisies.

Hi Sandy,

Lovely fabric, I agree with '60s for a date.

"Couture" simply means "sewing" or "dressmaking" in French and can be applied (and often was) to bespoke garments, which have been made to fit someone in particular.

In modern times it's often misunderstood to mean "haute couture" which is "high sewing" or the artform version, which is limited in use to a small number of designers who meet certain criteria (eg having a Parisian atelier).

So your lovely dress, hand made by a professional dressmaker is correctly called couture, but if you apply that word for a modern audience, some may misunderstand the quality.

Thank you. I was wondering why this label is not in the label resource as I see this company was pretty prolific.

Ok, I need help. The shoulders were a bit dusty and discolored so I decided to wash it gently by hand.
Well the dress is fine but the 2 linings now are all wrinkled.
My ? is if I put this in the cleaners can they iron the linings? I don't think I could.
Should of left it alone as it was not bad.
Is this batiste?
Thanks for any help. Sandy

Sorry I didn't see this earlier but I would have ironed while damp. If dry you can also iron over a damp cloth.

Thank you both. Will never do that again. I do believe I can try both and will be fine. Quite strong dress.
I had sent 2 dresses to cleaners but not much improvement on them so figured I would try.
Time does take a toll on vintage clothing so the ones left should be treasured
Even 1960 that is 55 years ago.
