I saw the new Beatles Rock Band commercial on tv and was really fascinated by it. I had to find it on the internet and watch it again. I think it was the best use of old footage/new footage I have ever seen. They used footage from the Let it Be tapings and then CGI'd beards on John and George to match the Abbey Road look so the street crossing scene in the beginning wouldn't be out of place.

In case you haven't seen it: (I know "friends" can't really post links...but hoping this is allowed. Someone send me a note if it isn't.)

I guess this is one of the first cases (not including any role William Shatner has) that fake computerized hair is prominent in the spotlight.

I know the question a few years ago when the Marilyn Monroe Chanel commercial came out surrounding using deceased folks in ads. In this case, permission from the living Beatles and the estates was definitely approved, and I don't think the practice quite opened the floodgates or the slippery slopes like folks imagined back when either the Marilyn or the "Duke" commercial came out.

I was watching the Beatles Anthology and it was the part where it was the Summer of Love and they thought it looked so cool. Then George Harrison went to San Francisco and thought "this is lame" and stopped taking drugs. At least that is what he said. It was all because it was so lame. Well, he didn't use the word "lame" - but that summed it up. He thought it was all this free artistic expression and it really was just a bunch of wasted drunk and high dirty people.

Anyways, maybe I was more fascinated by the spliced in footage and CGI than most folks. But it was the first time anyone did that an it didn't look really obvious and weird.
