Chanel Shoes marked in American Size?

So I have acquired a gorgeous pair of CHANEl black patent leather vintage flats with the box, but I'm so confused! I was under the impression that Chanel shoes were only marked on the bottom in a European size. These are marked 7 1/2. What do you think? I guess what I'm curious about is, was there a time when they might have marked some shoes in American sizes for export or for a specific store like Bergdorf's where these came from? Everything else about them & the box is correct. Thank you!
 
Yes I have seen Chanel pumps marked in US sizes, and I am based in the UK!

Would be good to see a photo of them and the box though just to confirm...
