Hi there... no one can give an appraisal of worth. That's against forum rules. I think I'd contact Chanel for assistance dating this. This one is tricky, especially not on a human or even mannequin. Part of me thinks it's the mid 1980s version of the sequin suit and then another part of me thinks it could be the 2000s version. Leaning toward the 80s...

Thank you for your help. I wasn't aware of that rule I will edit the post.

And that's kind of thing with the classic looks Lagerfeld created for Chanel - he had a formula that worked and did the same garments season after season but in different tweeds and materials... Honestly, I think this could be anywhere from 1988 to 2015

I have never seen a Chanel RTW piece with a handwritten label dating to after the early 90s. In the 90s Chanel started putting a printed season code on the label, and then at some point in the late 2000s/early 2010s they replaced the season code with a set of numbers.

Hello Nikol,

I have a Chanel Boutique piece with a tag similar to yours. Have done lots of research in order to date the item as close as possible. No one was seemingly able to give me a definite guide on how to date the Chanel Boutique clothes.

The tag of your skirt shows 'Collection 9'. There are a number of other Chanel items with tags that show the words 'Collection' and a number, such as 18, 26, etc.

Here are just my thoughts that may or may not be correct. As we know, Karl Lagerfeld has started with Chanel in 1983. My idea would be that the tags might reflect his collections in their subsequent numbers, like Collection 1, then the next would be Collection 2, and so on. It would then depend on how many RTW collections would he have issued in a year. Could be three or four collections, I guess. This logic would bring me to a guess that his ninth collection, Collection 9, might have been appeared in about 1985 or so.

How does that sound for dating the jacket?

that sounds like guessing, not based on any founded information.

I would highly recommend not suggesting a date based on someone's guess, or assumption or "thoughts", as you say, @Lily!,

Contacting Chanel would be the best, most accurate way to date an item.
