Checked day dress - 1940s?

I recently purchased a few day dresses from one source and most of them were from the 1930s but this one strikes me as 1940s. Agree?

I am seeing 70s 'does' 40s . Its seems odd that the belt is in the paler shade and doesn't have the same contrast fabric as the collar?
The width and shape of the collar doesn't seem right for actual 40s. Is there a label?

I am seeing more of an early 1950s look about it. The belt looks like those pliable (plastic- like) vinyl belts that I have seen in the past. I have difficulty describing what those belts were actually made of but I have had old dresses that came with similar belts to yours.

Your dress may have had a matching belt originally and this may be a replacement but it does pick up on the blue in the dress.

So sorry.... I forgot to tell you that the belt does not come with the dress. I agree it should be navy blue. That is just a belt I had from a 1950s dress. I wish I had the original belt but I do not.

Could you tell us a little bit more about your dress, please? Does it have a zipper - if so where is it located and what type of zipper is it? Any other fasteners? How are the seams finished? How long is the dress and does it appear to have been shortened? Does it seem like it was home-sewn or manufactured? Does it have any labels? What is the bust measurement in relation to the waist?

I have been seeing '50's - and although I have at least one '50's dress with a vinyl belt, I don't think the belt is original. I think it would have had a self-belt or a navy belt matching the trim.

Thanks!

Linn

Thank you for the extra pics: I can believe it's 40s now. The belt was throwing us off I think (I originally saw '70s too) but that side opening is an early style one, you're not likely to find that in a post-war piece.
