Hey everyone - I recently got a great UNWORN 1st label Diane Von Furstenberg dress - white jersey button down w/ screened stylized screened birds and clouds. I've never seen the print before and I LOVE it! And I'm not a a particularly huge DVF fan...

Anyway, there IS some yellowing to the dress in a few completely random areas. As suspected, when I went to soak the dress the brown bled everywhere. I removed it and rinsed right away - no extra harm done.

Problem is, now that I can't soak it, what's my next step? Right now it's drying outside w/ white vinegar on the yellow'd areas.

BTW - you know how sometimes you get things out of an old closet and they are just kind of yellowed where the hanger was etc etc etc... it's that kind of yellowing... closet yellow. :)

Anyway, thanks!

I am just writing up an acrylic knit DVF today. The care label reads as follows:

Hand Wash in cool water with mild dish detergent. Rinse throughly keeping water clear of excess dye. Dry Flat. No bleach. Cool Iron.

You might have to dry clean yours due to the excessive bleeding you describe.

BEST of LUCK!

If the areas aren't too large maybe you could dab a solution of oxy clean with a q-tip or small brush?

I also have had success with weak peroxide as well - if it isn't left on colors too long it hasn't faded them - so far anyway~

grrr this darn dress... the dark brown bled EVERYWHERE and i rinsed until the water ran clean... followed the directions above to a T (although my directions say to use absolutely NO cold water - all warm - probably knowing it would bleed and set the dye in cold....), i laid it flat to dry and now i went out and it bled more so i ran it BACK under the water.

At least most of the yellowing is at the hem, so if all else fails I'll shorten it a bit and keep it for myself....

WHY make a dress that says you can hand wash it and then it gets ruined when you follow the washing instructions? I'm hoping this 3rd rinse will help it....

stupid dress....

Try this:

Put it in a tub completely flat, run the water over it until it runs clear. Let it sit there and drain and then pull the dress out and put it on a towel, maybe two. Roll the towel and the dress into a long roll. Squeeze gently getting all of the excess water out of the dress. Then try laying it flat to dry the rest of the way.

I hear you, Anessa. Why make something you have no hope of cleaning? I get the disposable aspect of, say, paper dresses, but the disposability of them was the point.
A DVF wasn't created to be worn and then tossed when it got too stinky or stained.
